I am g great fan of Dali and I am a great fan of Vengelis...it's amazing when two incredible artist join to produce art...



Besides his commercial side, Vangelis was (and still is) devoted to conceptual works, most of these works are not known by the general audience used to his "new age" facet, in fact...Vangelis was a surreal music composer...I know there is no surrealism in music history, but due to his creation processes, experiments and results, I dare to say he was surrealist during a relatively long term of his career. In Present days, he is an academic composer by style.

By 1971 Vangelis had a band called Aphrodite's Child, and at the same time he was starting his solo career...This year the band created a conceptual piece named "666", the piece was based on the book of Revelations or in other words, in the description of the apocalypse. The text was written by Costas Ferris, a collaborator of Vangelis'
The piece was so strong and provocative that was prohibited...It became a collectors piece for some time (some years ago it was re released as CD in some countries).

Dali was very impressed by this piece. So impressed that he wrote a fantastic script for directing a great happening(1) in Barcelona, for the premiere of "666".
Unfortunately this happening never took place.

_{(1)HAPPENING in contemporary art terms is a conceptual work which modifies, artistically, (generally joining various artistic expressions such as music, theater, painting) places or elements of everyday life. It requires the active participation of the spectators. In this case, the whole city of Barcelona and its inhabitants.}

The main concept:

1. Martial Law shall be ordered on a Sunday, in Barcelona. No one shall be allowed to walk in the streets, or watch the event. No cameras, no TV. Only a young couple of shepherds will have the privilege to witness the event. So, they can later describe it to the people, by oral speech.

2. Giant loudspeakers shall be put in the streets, playing all day the work "666", by Vangelis, Ferris and the Aphrodite’s Child. No live performance.

3. Soldiers dressed in Nazi uniforms, will walk in military march in the streets of Barcelona, arresting who-ever wants to break the law.

4. Hundreds of swans will be left to move in front of the Sagrada Famiglia, with pieces of dynamite in their bellies, which will explode in slow motion by special effects.
(real living swans, that should be operated for putting the dynamite inside their belly).

5. Giant Navy planes, will fly all day in the sky of Barcelona, provoking big noise.

6. At 12.00 sharp, in the mid-day, those planes will start the bombardment of the great church, throwing all of their munitions.

7. Instead of bombs, they shall throw Elephants, Hippopotamus’, Whales and Archbishops carrying umbrellas.

["You mean, false archbishops, that is to say plastic or other dolls dressed as archbishops?" I * dared to ask.
"No, young man. When I say Archbishops, I mean real, living Archbishops. It’s about time to finish with the church!"]
